Pokemon Go Players Slam ‘Mod Abuse’ As Street Has Insane Amount Of Gyms

Niantic has been asked to look into a case of “modification abuse” in Pokemon Go, after a player found the craziest street with an insane amount of Gyms.

The game’s developers have been cracking down on editing abuse lately, which involves a community member using the “request a Pokestop” feature.

Filling out the form and then using Wayfarer to approve the change using a different account multiple times can bring new gyms closer together.

This example appears to be the result of an older edit, as Niantic has made it a lot harder to do these days.

Pokemon Go edits abuse discovered in a rowdy street

The discovery was made by Reddit user Sogy11 on August 29, posting, “I see your busy street, and I raise… Whatever that Gyms conga line is.”

A screenshot shows at least 15 gyms in a row when they really should be spread over a larger area, as seen in some major cities.

Now, this gives significant benefits to local players in terms of rewards. Owning a Gym for a while leads to additional Pokecoins, items, and Pokeballs in Raids, all of which could be obtained by traveling to a location to conquer and defend a Gym.

If you live on this street, however, you don’t have to worry about going to a battle arena in another part of town. It’s a gold mine.

In the comments, one player urged Niantic to look into the matter, which was met with clarification from other users. One fan replied, “It’s the result of old editing abuse. It’s not possible to do this without cheating.

“This is gross editing abuse. No one should have had this,” another said.

A third user said, “As a rural player, this brings me to tears,” citing issues with rural areas not having enough Pokestops or Gyms.

The Redditor confirmed that the street was found in Barcelona, Spain, and each Gym was attached to a different part of a wall in a pedestrian area. Whether or not this will be tracked and changed by the devs remains to be seen, although one thing is certain… Team Mystic is cleaning up this part of town.
