Newtec multi-head weighers offer various advantages for the packaging industry which revolve around three weighing principles:
- Combinatorial weighing
- Count by weight
- Weighing the mixture
Meeting the needs of small and large packaging companies, Newtec provides technology that guarantees weighing accuracy, confidence in the best weighing results for packaging units and customized and cost-effective solutions.
Specifically, Newtec’s multi-head weighers are designed to weigh and package fresh foods, washed and unwashed crops, fragile and less fragile products, as well as multiple product sizes and portions ranging from 50g to 25kg. .
Newtec serves customers who meet the ever-increasing need for ready-to-eat foods in different shapes and sizes and well-packaged, convenient portions, and is helping to change the way consumers access healthy, fresh food.
In addition, Newtec provides long-lasting solutions with less losses and optimal operation.
Maria Birch Sterregård, Newtec Marketing and Communications Manager:
“Sustainability, profitability, speed and efficiency of production are at the heart of Newtec’s three weighing principles and the machines we supply to our customers.”
Product-centric multihead weighing solutions
Newtec’s weighing principles for combining, mixing and counting by weight services are aimed at maximizing performance accuracy and managing products sensitively with significantly reduced waste.
The level of automation provided by Newtec offers a variety of benefits for small and large packaging plants. Newtec supplies weighers with four to sixteen weighing heads operating at up to 120 portions per minute, depending on customer requirements.
According to Newtec’s technical sales manager, Christian Max Villadsen, Newtec offers “machines for all products and all portion sizes”. They can respond to any request they receive”.
Christian Max Villadsen, Newtec Technical Sales Manager:
“The starting point is always the product so we can make sure we’re processing the product the right way to make it premium.”
“With each delivery, we give the utmost respect to the product we have to handle, doing it as gently as possible, providing the required speed to the customer and of course also having extremely high precision in the weighing mass.”
Newtec’s combination scales
Combination weighing efficiently weighs partial portions of products in the weigh heads. The partial portions are then selected in combination to create the optimal target weight.
Approaching the target weight set by the customer, Newtec scales unload the selected combination into the containers for product packaging neatly, cleanly and quickly.
An example of high-speed production can be seen with Newtec’s 4015B2 model, which can handle up to 110 portions per minute while being flexible for medium and small products.
To meet the exact needs of customers, the model of the machine and therefore the number and size of the weighing heads are determined according to the customer’s needs. The more the number of weighing heads, the higher the capacity you can achieve.
The number of available combinations also increases with the number of weighing heads. With an increased number of combinations available, you will achieve greater accuracy in your target weight.
Newtec scales are easy to maintain and use. Stainless steel construction and excellent mechanical design make them extremely durable. The weighers are either connected to a packaging line or used independently.
Counting by weight or by photocells
Counting by weight can be done in two ways:
Count by weight
All Newtec scales can count by weight and their features can help customers meet their specific product, size and portion requirements.
Counting by weight is indicative for homogeneous products – products of uniform size, shape and weight – and for customers wanting a certain quantity packed in a container.
Based on the average product weight, the machine counts the number of products in each weighing head and empties a combination with the right quantity into different packaging options.
Counting by weight ensures an efficient way to handle products of the same size, shape and weight, reducing wastage and avoiding repackaging.
Counting by photocells
If the weight of the product is very dissimilar, Newtec offers a detection bar on several machines. At the sensor, the products are counted before they fall into the weighing heads.
Often this bar is offered with a rotating brush additionally mounted on the weigher as part of Newtec’s “3 to target counting kit”.
The function of the rotating brush is to hold the products down and distribute them in a single layer in the chutes to make them visible to the photocells for counting. Both principles can be used to count from two to 20 products in each serving.
Newtec Mix Weighers
Newtec manufactures many mixing scales. To provide a customized solution based on the needs of its customers, Newtec just needs information on the number of products to be mixed and the precision required for each product group.
The sensitivity and flexibility of the product is also reflected in Newtec’s mixing solution when distributing the products through the weigh heads and final packaging.
According to product specifications and requirements, products are packed in a variety of containers.
Product filling is based on its nature and cost to avoid overfilling the most expensive product.
Christian Max Villadsen:
“I think we’re going to see a growing demand for special solutions where we mix different products. We’ve seen that’s a growing trend, especially in Europe, and I’m sure it will happen in other markets as well. “
“This requires a special solution where we combine different weighing machines into one solution, which can mix the different products in the same package.”
With Newtec, the packaging process is enhanced with an automated operation ensuring convenience, ease of use and high quality results.
An example would be the root vegetable blending solution offered by Newtec for a customer whose goal was to move from manual to automation for the blending of four vegetables packed in a tray.
Two Newtec weighers were chosen, one handling three products due to its ability to separate products to be weighed one at a time and the other handling carrots.
Newtec’s specially designed carrot scale completes the correct target weight with carrots.
Although the carrots are the last product to be weighed, they are placed at the bottom of the tray according to the customer’s request.
With the combination of the two scales, the customer achieved precision in portions, less waste and less reliance on staff while following the contemporary trend of creating different mixes.
